Kyriakos OIKONOMOU

Kyriakos Oikonomou is a Former Judge of the Supreme Court (Areios Pagos). He studied Law and Political Sciences at the University of Athens. He attended the LL.M. in Maritime Law in QMWC (QMUL), UCL. He practiced law in Athens for about five years. He is Judge since 1983. For many years he served as a Judge in the Department of Maritime Law in the Court of First Instance and the Court of Appeal in Piraeus. 

Between 2009 and 2012 he was detached to the Ministry of Justice to assist the legislative drafting. He represented the Ministry of Justice in Organizations and Commissions of the European Union, among others in the Commission for the recast of Regulation EC 44/2001, already replaced by Regulation EU 1215/2012. He is member of the Greek Department of the European Judicial Network in civil and commercial cases. He was President and member of Legislative Drafting Committees and recently in the Committee for the new Code of Civil Procedure. He participated as lecturer-speaker in workshops and conferences and, amongst them, in the 7th, 8th and 9th International Conferences of Maritime Law. From 2013 to 2017 he was President in the Court of Appeal serving in the Penal Department of the Court of Appeal in Athens and since 2017 he is serving as Judge of the Supreme Court (Areios Pagos).
