Antonis Koutsofios

Mr Antonios E. Koutsofios obtained his law degree from the National University of Athens Law School, summa cum laude, in 1978. He then read for his Master’s Degree, in shipping and international law, at the University College London (UCL), which he obtained in October 1979.

There followed a period of military service (with the Greek Navy) and then as a trainee lawyer. Following the prescribed 18 months of training, he was called to the bar in November 1982 and he has been practising law ever since, as a Member of the Bar Association of Piraeus. Mr Koutsofios has been admitted to practice before the Greek Supreme Court, which is reserved to senior lawyers, and, in 1993, he entered, as a full partner, the well-known Piraeus law firm N. GOYIOS - A. NASSIKAS, established in October 1977. He is currently one of the two managing partners of the firm and he specialises in shipping and insurance law.

Mr Koutsofios mainly engages in insurance litigation (both marine and non-marine). In this capacity he regularly appears before the Greek Courts of all levels and he has regularly dealt, successfully, with major cases involving, as primary assured, banks and other financial institutions. He is very respected in his field and among his peers, who often consult with him on difficult legal issues and he lectures on pertinent legal issues. Due to the experience he has amassed, Mr Koutsofios is also often retained for the purpose of offering legal opinions/advices on insurance matters, including by Lloyd’s Underwriters (especially Reinsurers) and well-known reinsurance companies.
